Two Border Guard policemen were stabbed by an Arab terrorist in Hevron Sunday afternoon, on the eve of the Seventh of Passover holiday. One of the victims is in moderate-to-serious condition.

A 17-year-old Arab of Hevron, armed with a knife, approached a Border Guard jeep between the Machpelah Cave and Beit Hadassah shortly after noon on Sunday. He opened the door and stabbed two policemen sitting inside. Another Border Guard policeman managed to shoot the would-be murderer, who was not killed but was only wounded in the foot. ....

An estimated 50,000 Jews visited the Jewish areas of Hevron on Wednesday and Thursday, without incident. Just a month ago, a female Arab terrorist was caught near the Machpelah Cave with a knife; she said she had planned to stab a soldier. Six months ago, a soldier was stabbed in the same area.

Two Arabs involved in the sale of a Hebron building to the Jewish community have been placed under arrest, one by the Palestinian Authority, the other by Jordon. The arrested Arabs now face capital punishment, as Palestinian Authority law dictates the death sentence for anyone found guilty of selling property to a Jew.

“It is a disgrace that selling houses is considered a capital offense,” said Wilder. “This is a regular transaction that takes place everyday throughout the free world. That someone would be arrested for selling their home if they choose is preposterous. “I wonder where all the Human Rights organizations that station themselves in Hebron contending to look after the rights of Arabs in the city are now."

HEBRON TOMB DESECRATED

The Hebron police are searching for an unidentified group of people who tore off the mezuzah from the entrance to the tomb of Yishai (Jesse) and Ruth near the neighborhood of Tel Rumeida in Hebron. The group also smashed a stand for memorial candles and stole a charity collection box. The Jewish residents of the city have announced that following the incident they intend to patrol the area of the tomb.
