THIRD FIRE WORRIES MONTREAL'S JEWS

Third fire worries Montreal Jews (JTA)
Montreal’s Jewish community is uneasy after a third suspicious fire in less than a month. The latest fire destroyed a cottage Sunday at a popular summer retreat for Chasidim an hour north of Montreal, the Globe and Mail reported. Two weeks earlier a fire destroyed a nearby home. The same home had been targeted days earlier, but firefighters contained the blaze."The community is shocked that this has happened again," Mayer Feig, a community spokesman, said yesterday. "We are very, very concerned."Though police say the fires were set intentionally and labeled the latest one "suspicious," they cannot designate the fire as a hate crime in the absence of messages specifically targeting Jews.
