BHUTTO WANTED ISRAELI SECURITY

ANOTHER CONSEQUENCE OF THE REFUSAL OF ISLAMIC NATIONS TO RECOGNIZE ISRAEL.

Bhutto wanted Israeli security (JTA)
Slain Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto had tried to hire Israeli security personnel.

Relatives of Bhutto, who was assassinated last week in a shooting and bombing attack, had asked Israel to supply her with Shin Bet bodyguards, Ma'ariv reported Sunday.

The idea of supplying Bhutto with Israeli government agents was immediately ruled out in Jerusalem, which has no formal ties with Islamabad. But there were alternative proposals to put her in touch with private Israeli security companies or retired personnel from the Shin Bet or Mossad intelligence agencies.
"We could have been more sensitive and quicker, but we dragged our feet on this Bhutto issue, and that's a shame," Ma'ariv quoted an unnamed Israeli diplomatic official as saying.

Similar requests that Bhutto made to U.S. and British security agencies also went unmet.

DOES PAKISTAN HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXIST?

A World Without--Pakistan? (BACKSPIN)
Think Israel has no right to exist? In a compelling commentary, Michael Medved takes all the arguments against Israel's right to exist and finds that them more applicable to Pakistan.

This Islamist intransigence raises the obvious question: on what basis does Pakistan constitute an “authentic,” “well-established,” “respect-worthy” nation, but Israel does not?

On every conceivable basis—history, international recognition, authorization by world bodies (The League of Nations supported a Jewish homeland on the site of Israel in 1923, a decade before anyone even proposed the idea of Pakistan), stability, functioning economy, democratic institutions, rule of law, enforceable borders, successful self-defense on multiple occasions, desire of peace with neighbors, support by a majority of its own citizens, respect for religious and ethnic pluralism --- Israel contrasts favorably with “The Islamic Republic of Pakistan.”

UPDATED: OUR ALLY, PAKISTAN!

UPDATE: It’s a group calling itself “Hizbullah in Pakistan.” [LGF] knows this because they were holding signs that read, “We Are Hizbullah in Pakistan.”

SECURITY FENCE HYPOCRISY FOLLOW UP

LAST WEEK I POSTED AN ARTICLE ABOUT SECURITY FENCES AROUND THE WORLD (ISRAEL ISN'T THE ONLY COUNTRY WITH A SECURITY FENCE). BACKSPIN HAS A FOLLOW UP:

Good Fences, Good Neighbors Part 2 (Backspin)
* Some 3,000 Yemeni tribesman are preparing to resist construction of a Saudi barrier. The Yemen Times explains why:

The sheik claims that Saudi Arabia has already built a security fence 4 to 7 km beyond the neutral zone inside Yemen....
Didn't the Saudis criticize the Israeli security for not sticking to the Green Line?

The Saudis are also building a 550 mile fence along the Saudi-Iraqi border.

* In six years, India has walled off 1,300 miles of the barrier's planned 2,500 mile length along the Bangladeshi border. The Times of London writes:

While the world’s attention has been focused on the Israeli security barrier sealing off the West Bank, India has been building a far longer fence to keep out Islamic militants, thwart cross-border smuggling and stop human trafficking.
At the time Israel's cabinet first approved construction plans, India's barrier was already in the building stage.

* Thailand and Malaysia agreed to triple the length of the barrier along their border.

* Pakistan is fencing off sections of its border with Afghanistan to keep out the Taliban. Sound familiar?

All these countries joined the UN General Assembly's condemnation of Israel's security fence in 2003. We're not holding our breaths waiting for critical coverage of these border projects.
