UC IRVINE CHANCELLOR REFUSES TO REFUTE CAMPUS ANTI-SEMITISM

Drake stays mum on UC Irvine anti-Semitism (JTA)
The University of California, Irvine's chancellor again refused to speak out against acts of anti-Semitism on his campus.

Michael Drake, confronted over his position at the opening plenary of Hillel’s summit Monday in Washington, issued a blanket condemnation of hate speech, including anti-Semitism, saying it had no place in society.

"It's deplorable. It's deplorable," Drake said. "And we reject it absolutely."

Drake declined to comment, however, when asked by JTA after the summit how he feels about some of the anti-Israel activity that has taken place at UC Irvine. He said the university wished to remain "content neutral."

UC Irvine students have charged that they have been physically and verbally harassed by Muslim students, and that speakers are routinely invited to campus who compare Israel to Nazi Germany.

Drake's participation in the summit generated vocal opposition from groups who say his refusal to condemn specific incidents of anti-Israel and anti-Semitic activity makes him unfit to speak at the event. Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life has rejected that position.

A representative of the Coalition of Jewish Concerns-Amcha interrupted the plenary following the opening remarks, seizing the microphone on the rostrum and accusing Hillel of adopting a "Do as I say, not as I do" attitude. The representative, Rabbi Shmuel Herzfeld, also distributed a letter criticizing Drake.

A letter last week sent to Hillel's president, Wayne Firestone, from 41 Jewish students condemned Drake's invitation. Firestone met with the students last Friday.

In a meeting with reporters following the plenary, Firestone reiterated Hillel's position on the Drake invitation and said he was "proud" the organization had given the chancellor a platform. Firestone said Drake's participation created a "public accounting" and was an opportunity to "build sensitivity" among university administrations to issues of Jewish concern.

SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE DEMANDS DOE INVESTIGATE ANTI-SEMITISM AT UC IRVINE

Senate Judiciary Committee Demands DOE Investigate Antisemitism At UC Irvine

(LGF)

The US Senate Judiciary Committee is unhappy with the University of California’s absurd whitewash of the antisemitism and radical Islamism at UC Irvine, and is demanding that the Department of Education pursue the investigation; more details at Red County: Senate Judiciary Committee Recognizes UC Irvine Anti-Semitism.

JEWISH STUDENTS URGED TO AVOID ANTI-SEMITIC UC IRVINE

Jewish students urged to avoid UC Irvine (JTA)
Anti-Semitism is so rampant at the University of California-Irvine that Jewish students should avoid enrolling, a new report says.

An unaffiliated task force made up of Jewish residents of Irvine conducted 80 hours of interviews with students, faculty and residents and determined that anti-Semitic acts are “real and well documented” on campus, according to an article in the local Daily Pilot.

“Jewish students have been harassed. Hate speech has been unrelenting,” the report alleges. The report takes faculty to task for “political correctness” that prevents them from speaking out against anti-Israel events and speakers sponsored by the school’s very active Muslim Student Union.

UC restrictions on Israel study challenged (JTA)
Students at the 10 University of California campuses are ratcheting up efforts to overturn restrictions on study abroad in Israel.

Jewish students and Hillels will appeal to the state legislature to overturn the 2002 decision of the University of California Education Abroad Program, which withholds university funding from programs in countries on the U.S. State Department’s travel advisory list on the grounds of student safety.

According to Senate Resolution 18, introduced Jan. 17 by Sen. Carol Migden (D-San Francisco), UC students who choose to study in Israel must formally withdraw from the university, risk losing their financial aid and, if they are readmitted, have no guarantee that their credits will transfer.

The resolution notes that the State Department travel advisory was never intended to apply to study abroad programs, which form an increasingly important part of a university education. It further notes that several other state university systems have reinstated their study programs in countries with less severe travel advisories, such as Kenya and Nepal. The resolution suggests that the University of California do the same.

UC IRVINE CHANCELLOR BOBS AND WEAVES OVER CAMPUS ANTI-SEMITISM

UCI chief meets with Jewish groups (OC Register)
IRVINE - UC Irvine Chancellor Michael V. Drake told several hundred concerned Jewish community members Wednesday night to join in on discussions and work together against what he calls isolated incidents of anti-Jewish speech by outsiders on campus.

Drake answered questions during a 90-minute town hall meeting at Shir Ha-Ma'alot in Irvine addressing concerns about what the Jewish community calls ongoing anti-Israel and anti-Semitic activity on UCI's campus.

"We promote dialogue, understanding, growth and tolerance at UCI," Drake said. "I'd like to enlist all of you in working with me to make Jewish life on campus as strong as possible."

The meeting comes after a February decision by the Hillel Foundation of Orange County, a Jewish group, to form a task force to investigate what it called "a growing number of anti-Semitic incidents" at UC Irvine.

Drake, who maintained throughout the night that presentations on campus sponsored by Muslim student groups constituted free speech, was invited by several Orange County Jewish groups.

Here are a few questions, with responses by Drake:

Why is it that you personally don't exercise your right to free speech and speak directly to statements made on campus?

"We have 1,000 guest speakers on campus every year. Could I evaluate them and say this one is anti-Semitic? I could not. What I could say is that as a person and a campus, we abhor hate speech, period."

Right now, my kids don't want to go to your school. With the activity on campus, why should my kids go to your school?

"It's an outstanding educational institutional. If you talk to our students, they will tell you how much they love their experience here. (These incidents) are not every other day. It's a couple of times a year. And they're from people coming from off campus. It just got more media attention."

Is there a place on campus that does not tolerate anti-group speech on campus?

"There are 26,000 students on campus. I want every student on campus to know that this is their home. I want them to feel secure, and feel that is their home."

UPDATED: IT'S ISRAEL-HATE WEEK AT UC IRVINE

UC Irvine Muslim Students Attack FBI Agent with Cinderblock (LGF)
An unbelievable story from the University of California Irvine, where the Muslim Students Union is holding a virulently anti-Israel hate week, and at the same time trying to claim victimhood: FBI actions at UCI questioned.

The OC Register says the “FBI” is being questioned. But notice—the students not only tried to detain the agent, they threw a cinderblock at his car.

...he noticed a silver Ford Taurus with blackened windows following him. Ahmed said he stopped the truck in view of other campus observers and stood in front of the Taurus, trying to look through the blackened windshield and asking the driver to identify himself. When he would not speak, Ahmed said he tried to take a photo of the car’s license plate with his camera phone.

“He could have just rolled down his window and said, ‘I’m an FBI agent,’ and that would have been the end of it,” Ahmed said. “There was nothing improper going on.”

Instead, according to Ahmed, the driver revved his engine threateningly and began pushing him backward with the car’s front bumper. Ahmed said he then began calling for help, and dozens of other students ran over to assist. ... Regarding the allegations that an FBI agent endangered a student, Eimiller said, “The fair thing to do is to let the cops investigate it.” She added that a student threw a cinderblock at the agent.

The agent did not violate any policy by refusing to identify himself, Eimiller said, because he was not conducting an arrest.

The Council on American Islamic Relations is seething.

On Thursday, Hussam Ayloush, executive director of the Southern California chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations in Anaheim, said his office “has received many calls from students and parents at UCI expressing extreme concern about the safety and privacy of their students on campus” since Monday.

“The calls came all day yesterday and today,” Ayloush said Thursday. “It’s understandable that law enforcement might sometimes need to verify certain tips, but the problem in this situation was the manner in which it was conducted.”

Rabbi Mocks Hatefest at UC Irvine (LGF)
Reut Cohen has lots of coverage of the ongoing madness at UC Irvine, where the Muslim Students Union is finishing up a week of Holocaust denial and support for terrorism, enabled and permitted by a university administration that shares the responsibility for this outrageous hate speech.

One rabbi has hit on a creative way to protest the MSU’s hatefest, a technique against which the radical Islamists have no defense: mockery. [VIDEO]

UC Irvine has apparently been willing to overlook violations of their own code in order to let this event continue; Concerned UCI Student has details: UCI MSU again violates UCI code #102.02 by furnishing false information.

UPDATE: Video: UC Irvine MSU Antisemitism Revealed (LGF)
You’re not going to believe this one; video of an evil antisemitic rant by Amir Abdel Malik Ali, in a private room at the Muslim Students Union hatefest this week at University of California Irvine. Absolutely sickening, with paranoid conspiracy theories about the Mossad being behind 9/11, and claims that “Zionist Jews” are plotting around the world to make Muslims look bad.

The student recording the video is thrown out when they notice him. This is really nasty stuff.

Here’s a post about the video at the OC Blog: UCI Intifada: Preaching Terror on Campus.

MORE ANTI-SEMITISM AT UC IRVINE

Next Week at UC Irvine: 'The UC Intifada' (LGF)

Following their Holocaust Denial Week at the University of California Irvine, the Muslim Students Association is planning a gala anti-Israel event next week, featuring some of the superstars of hate speech and antisemitism. Blogger Reut Cohen found the schedule on Facebook: Next Week: Anti-Israel/Anti-Semitism Week at UCI . It's beyond outrageous that the administration of this school has allowed such evil hatred to take root on their campus. They should be thrown out and investigated.

A week long series of events aimed at educating and inspiring people to get involved in supporting justice for palestine.

JIMMY CARTER'S FRIENDS

Hate Campus Invites Carter (LGF)
The University of California Irvine, where the Muslim Students Union called for jihad and genocide following a disrupted speech by Daniel Pipes, has invited America’s disgraceful Israel-hating ex-president Jimmy Carter to the campus: Jimmy Carter to visit UC Irvine, talk with students.

This despicable human being should be shunned; instead he’s being feted by academia and used by radical Islamic front groups to promote their demonization of Israel. This is going to make the already appalling, out of control situation at UC Irvine much worse.

UPDATE at 4/28/07 8:58:44 am:

Alan Dershowitz writes about Jimmy Carter’s connections to the absolutely insane Arab “think tank” known as The Zayed Centre for Coordination and Follow-up: The Real Jimmy Carter.

LGF was one of the first to expose this vile organization, in the months following the September 11 attacks. But we shouldn’t forget that Jimmy Carter was not the only American politician to associate with The Zayed Centre.

You might have heard of some of the others: former president Bill Clinton, former vice president Al Gore, former secretary of state James Baker, and President George W. Bush’s brother, Neil Bush.

The corruption goes deep.

ANTI-SEMITISM AT U.C. IRVINE

UC-Intifada - Aaron Hanscom (FrontPageMagazine)
On Jan. 31, Middle East scholar Daniel Pipes gave a talk at the University of California at Irvine titled, "The Threat to Israel's Existence." Roughly 100 members of UCI's Muslim Student Union occupied the central seats in the lecture hall, most wearing t-shirts reading "UC Intifada."

A coordinated disruption began about five minutes into the talk. After the protesters exited the building while chanting slogans, student Reut Cohen followed the MSU students outside with her video camera running. Cohen's video of an organizer of the protest declaring: "It's just a matter of time before the State of Israel will be wiped off the face of the earth" immediately began circulating on the Internet and was aired on Fox News.

The Hillel Foundation of Orange County announced this week that it will investigate "an alarming increase in anti-Semitism" at UC Irvine, a campus with a history of tension between Muslim and Jewish students. It is the second investigation in two years of alleged anti-Semitism at the campus.

UC IRVINE MUSLIM STUDENT UNION CALLS FOR ISRAEL TO BE WIPED OUT

UC Irvine: MSU Calls for Israel to Be Wiped Out (LGF)

On Thursday [LGF] featured a video recording from Daniel Pipes' talk at the University of California Irvine, showing the Muslim Students Union staging a coordinated disruption, walking out and loudly chanting "Anti-Israel!": Video: Muslim Students Disrupt Daniel Pipes Speech at UC Irvine .

But the worst, most disturbing part of this event was buried later in the video, as the camera followed the Muslim students outside to hear a speech from an organizer. I've isolated this section in the video below, and transcribed the genocidal MSU speech. This is really bad stuff.

I just want to say a few words, because I know a lot of people, before this program today, we had many ideas on how things should be done. And there was a lot of chatter going back and forth, and some people wanted to make bold statements, some people wanted to have a silent protest, [inaudible].

But at the end I just want to make one comment, that what we did by walking out of there, it really helps us be very very very powerful, and I want you guys all to go home and just realize, and that is everything, like Daniel Pipes is saying, everything for them is to boost their morale. This whole program was to boost their morale, make them feel as if Israel is there to stay. And that they're gonna ... he's trying to garner support for the state of Israel.

And by having a university campus, a bunch of students all walk out, this is trash, this is garbage ... it really defeats ... it deflates the morale of everyone in that room. So right now they're all pretty depressed in there. [Laughter.]

And they're gonna go out there and they're gonna think, they're gonna try to make people think they're powerful for a minute. But when they go home, they're gonna be like, crap. We're in the middle of America, we're in Irvine, a public [inaudible] ... and this whole campus hates our guts. [Laughter.]

They have no future. And it's just a matter of time before the state of Israel will be wiped off the face of the earth.

[Crowd: Takbir! Allahu akbar!]

Justice will be restored then. Those people who are there legitimately ... the people there will, will rule. There will be no injustice any more there.

So just keep on doing what we're doing. Our weapon, our jihad, our way of struggling in this country is with our tongues. We speak out, and we deflate their morale, and this is the best we can do right now . And our brothers and sisters on the other side of the world, they're handling business in their own way. May Allah give them strength ... [inaudible]

[Crowd: Takbir! Allahu akbar!]
