PALI HUNGER STRIKE FIZZLES
Palestinian Prisoners End Hunger Strike - Steven Erlanger (New York Times)
After 18 days, Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails called off their hunger strike on Thursday, and while Palestinian officials tried to put on a brave face, there was little doubt that they had suffered a significant defeat. Yaakov Ganot, head of the Prisons Service, said the strike was set to fail since the various Palestinian terrorist factions could not succeed in uniting. "Hamas and Islamic Jihad barely succeeded in getting the Fatah to join the strike," he said. (Jerusalem Post)
Their brethren in the West Bank and Gaza are shooting guns in the air, crowing that most ofthe prisoners' demands have been met. But as usual, they're lying.
"They didn't get anything. We didn't hold any discussions with them atall. They resumed eating unconditionally," the commander of prisons,Yaacov Ganot, said."
