Report: Sweden turns down Vanunu asylum request
Sweden has turned down a request for political asylum from nuclear spy Mordechai Vanunu, Israel Radio quoted officials in Stockholm as saying.

A Swedish immigration official said Vanunu had asked for political asylum from several European nations, but that all of the requests were turned down.

The official said part of the reason Vanunu's appeal was refused was that it is not common for a person to make a request for political asylum from inside a country that person is asking to leave. Those asking for asylum need to be inside a different country at the time the request is made, the official said.
