EASTERN EUROPE WON'T HELP WITH NAZI HUNTS
Victims forever?
European countries are resisting efforts to gather information on suspected Nazis and their collaborators, a leading Nazi hunter charged.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Efraim Zuroff said this week that several countries have failed to come forward to help the center’s Operation Last Chance program, which offers rewards in several Central and Eastern European countries for information on suspected war criminals. Zuroff cited Romania, Austria and the Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
“They’d rather talk about how much they suffered under the Soviet regime, but fail to punish the murderers of World War II,” he was quoted as saying about the Baltic countries.
