Hamas gets Europe´s ear?
The European Union is reportedly holding low-level contacts with Hamas. Haaretz said Thursday that E.U. representatives had informed the United States of the change in a longstanding policy of officially shunning the Palestinian terrorist group. There was no immediate comment from Brussels, but Hamas confirmed that junior E.U. diplomats have met with its politicians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Visiting Israel early this month, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said his country would not hold talks with Hamas as long it continues to seek Israel´s destruction. It was not clear if the the 25-nation E.U. had similar preconditions.
