Israel says militants were about to stage cross-border attack

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Israeli missiles fired from the air ripped apart a car in the northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday in the third airstrike within a week, killing four Palestinian militants and wounding four people.

The Israeli military said it targeted operatives from the small Popular Resistance Committees who were on their way to carry out an attack against Israel. The vehicle was loaded with explosives, it added. The military would not say where it thought the car was headed, but it was struck near Karni, Gaza’s main cargo passage with Israel, a site of past attacks.
