40% OF ASHKENAZIS DESCEND FROM 4 WOMEN

According to today's Wall Street Journal (sorry, no link), an Israeli genetic study found that 3.5 million Ashkenazi Jews, or 40%, descended from four women. The findings were reported in the American Journal of Human Genetics.
