ISRAEL CONDEMNS ITALIAN ANTI-ISRAEL DEMONSTRATIONS
Israeli condemns Italian protest (JTA)
Israel’s ambassador to Italy condemned anti-Israel demonstrations that took place near a march marking Italy’s liberation from fascism 61 years ago.
“As a Jew and an Israeli, I was filled with shame and anger at the sight of the barbarous behavior of the ‘fascists’ of the extreme left, who defiled the sanctity of the Liberation Day holiday,” Ehud Gol said in a statement, according to The Associated Press.
According to Italian media, the anti-Israel protests, which took place near the main Liberation Day march in Milan, included the burning of two Israeli flags and the chanting of “intifada.”
Prime Minister-elect Romano Prodi, the center-left politician who recently won Italian elections, called the act a “vile demonstration of intolerance,” the A.P. said.
