Three Jerusalem Arabs were under arrest Wednesday for allegedly setting fire to a city synagogue, police said. The three, whose ages ranged from 15-20 and were all residents of the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya, are suspected of hurling flammable material at the 'Sha'are Rachamim VeSemcha' synagogue in the northern Jerusalem neighborhood of French Hill several months ago, as well as setting fire to three private vehicles in the area.

The synagogue, which is located on the periphery of the neighborhood, was badly damaged during thenighttime attack. The three suspects were remanded in custody Wednesday by a Jerusalem court. The suspected arsonists told police interrogators that they carried out the attacks for "nationalistic" reasons, police said.
