ANOTHER MISLEADING A.P. HEADLINE AND ARTICLE

'Israel Settlement Breaks Promise to U.S.' (NYSun)
... according to an AP headline.

The story reads:

Israel has approved a new settlement in the West Bank to house former Jewish settlers from the Gaza Strip, officials said Tuesday, breaking a promise to the U.S. to halt home construction in the Palestinian territories.
Not until the seventh paragraph (and after quoting Palestinian Arab officials criticizing Israel) does the AP give the details of this "promise":
Under the stalled, U.S.-backed "road map" peace plan, Israel pledged to freeze all settlement expansion, while the Palestinians promised to crack down on militants. Neither side has followed through.

So the "promise" was part of a peace plan that has long since collapsed and the Palestinian Arabs have been violating since day one. But that wouldn't make quite the same sensationalist, Israel-bashing lead, that the AP loves.
