An IDF unit on Wednesday engaged three terrorists approaching the border fence in northern Gaza. During the incident, the Palestinians detonated two bombs they had planted near the fence. After the IDF force chased them several hundred meters inside Gaza, Islamic Jihad member Ramiz al-Zaneen was killed, another was injured, and the third was arrested. The IDF has been authorized by Israel's political leadership to enter Gaza in order to prevent the placing of bombs or to uncover tunnels near the fence. (Ha'aretz)

Zakariya Zubeidi, the commander of Fatah's al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades in Jenin, was shot in the shoulder by IDF soldiers operating in the West Bank city in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to Palestinian sources.

Zubeidi, who is wanted by Israel for a series of terror attacks, is listed in light to moderate condition. Army officials later confirmed that soldiers opened fire at a gunman in Jenin.

Following the incident Zubeidi told Ynet from his hideout that he is in good condition and that his men would “continue to battle the IDF as long as it invades Palestinian towns.”

Israeli helicopters fired into the northern Gaza Strip on Saturday, killing one Palestinian gunman in what local residents said was the fiercest exchange between Israeli forces and terrorists since a November truce. The residents said the helicopters fired at least two missiles at gunmen near the Jabalya refugee camp.

An Israel Defense Forces spokesman said the helicopters fired at “suspicious movements” that were identified several times near the border fence where militants had been operating and trying to plant explosive devices.

Islamic Jihad said its militants and members of another group had been mounting an operation near the fence when the exchange of fire occurred. A member of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine was killed in the exchange, Islamic Jihad said.
