Report: Assad refused to launch Syrian front against Israel during Lebanon war (YNet)
MK Ran Cohen (Meretz) met on Wednesday with Syrian businessman Ibrahim Suliman, who is visiting Israel. During their meeting the two discussed the recent war in Lebanon and Suliman told Cohen that Syrian President Bashar Assad had been under pressure at the time to launch an assault against Israel in the Golan Heights. Assad, said Suliman, refused. On Thursday Suliman is expected to appear before the Knesset Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee. (Amnon Meranda)
