SHIN BET ARRESTS JORDANIAN PLOTTING KIDNAPPINGS

Shin Bet arrests Jordanian terrorist (JPost)
A day after the Shin Bet announced that it had foiled a planned terror attack on a Modi'in synagogue, the agency said Wednesday that a Jordanian man who planned to kidnap Israelis in Jerusalem had been arrested by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and the Jerusalem Police in November 2006.

During his interrogation, Allah Hamad, 28, revealed that he had been recruited by Hamas operatives in Syria. Hamad holds Israeli as well as Jordanian citizenship, and was sent to live in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Zur Bahar.

Hamad reportedly collected intelligence by walking the streets and scoping out potential kidnapping targets, whom his recruiters hoped to use as a bargaining chip in negotiations with Israel.

According to the report, Hamad, 28, received special training in how to make himself inconspicuous among Israelis. He was also taught how to construct bombs with timing devices. Security forces who arrested Hamad found materials that could be used to construct a bomb.

Hamad told his interrogators that he was arrested approximately two weeks before attempting to execute his kidnapping plans.
