U.S. COURT: IRAN MUST PAY TERROR VICTIM'S FAMILY

A US district court in Washington D.C. has ruled that Iran must pay approximately $13m to the family of Marla Bennett, an US citizen who was killed in a terror attack at Hebrew University's Frank Sinatra cafeteria on July 31, 2002.

In his ruling, the judge asserted that the Iranian government bore responsibility for the attack due to its long-standing support for Hamas, which had carried out the bombing.

In a press release, the Hebrew University administration said that it "pays tribute to the memory of Marla Bennett and all of the other victims of the terrorist attack and expresse[s] satisfaction at the decision of the court, which perhaps will ease, if only slightly, the sorrow of the family."

Eight other students and cafeteria workers were killed in the attack.

Bennett was a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, with a BA in Political Science and an English minor. After her death friends described her as a beautiful young woman with quiet grace and a calming presence.

Responding to the concern of friends and family abroad, Bennett wrote in a column for her hometown paper, the San Diego Jewish Press-Heritage: "I have a front-row seat for the history of the Jewish people. I am a part of the struggle for Israel's survival."
