Two young east Jerusalem residents were indicted over the weekend on suspicion of trying to transport a suicide bomber into the capital to perpetrate a terror attack and plotting to assassinate Israeli public figures, including Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski, it was announced Sunday.

The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) said that the suspects allegedly trained the would-be bomber to shoot security forces stationed at the Mughrabi Gate, near the Western Wall, before detonating his explosives.

According to the indictment served by Jerusalem district prosecutors, the two are suspected of establishing contacts with a foreign agent, conspiring to assist an enemy in war and aiding a terror group.

The indictment sheet details how the two, Ma'amun Abu Tir and Ata'allah Abu Tir, both 19, attempted to establish a terror cell.
