WHAT THE U.S. GETS FOR THE $2BILLION IT GIVES TO EGYPT

Sharansky: Egypt center of anti-Semitism
Egypt is the global center of anti-Semitism, Natan Sharansky said. The Israeli Cabinet minister, who heads a government task force on anti-Semitism, told a congressional lunch in his honor Wednesday that more anti-Semitic tracts are published in Egypt than anywhere else. “Egypt today is the center of world anti-Semitism,” Sharansky said, expounding on his thesis that dictatorial regimes create outside enemies to distract their people from their real plight — and Egypt’s rulers have made theirs the Jews.

“More ‘Protocols of the Elders of Zion’ are published in Egypt than in any other country in the world,” Sharansky said. About 20 members of Congress attended the lunch, which was held in honor of the success of Sharansky’s book, “The Case for Democracy,” which President Bush repeatedly has cited as an inspiration for his foreign policy. Some congressmen ribbed Sharansky for his newfound influence. Rep. Tom Lantos (D-Calif.) congratulated him for his new “part-time job” as Bush’s ghostwriter.
