HAMAS V. EGYPT?

Hamas Retreats, Because of Egypt? (NY Sun)
"The Hamas militant group withdrew a controversial private militia from the streets of the Gaza Strip on Friday, saying it wanted to avoid further infighting with the rival Fatah movement," the AP reports. News outlets are spinning the Hamas retreat as because of Mahmoud Abbas telling them to back down, we wonder if this is really out of fear of Egypt annexing Gaza?

"The mainstream media thus far has largely overlooked another story, one which doesn't fit the ordinary paradigm of Arab vs. Jew: the fact that Hamas' relations with Jordan are worsening, and the same may be about to occur with Egypt," the Washington Time editorializes. Perhaps why Egypt is offering to send its troops into Gaza. Lucky Hamas has the New York Times in their corner.
