FAKE HAMAS-FATAH CEASE-FIRE IN TATTERS

Fighting escalates in Gaza, killing at least 8 (MSNBC)

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Fighting between Palestinian factions escalated across Gaza on Friday, killing at least eight people as Hamas overran compounds used by President Mahmoud Abbas' forces and Fatah set the Islamic University ablaze.

Three Hamas gunmen, two members of Abbas' intelligence service, a woman and two children were killed on a second day of fierce clashes that shattered a three-day-old cease-fire between Abbas' Fatah faction and the ruling Islamist movement.

“I call upon everyone, regardless of their affiliation, to stop this bloodletting,” Abbas said in the West Bank city of Ramallah....

Across Gaza, rival forces loyal to Fatah and Hamas fought running gun battles in the streets and from rooftops.

Hamas attacked a base used by Abbas' presidential guard, pounding it with mortar bombs before taking it over. Hamas said it seized weapons at the base before setting it on fire.

Heavy smoke from fires at the Islamic University blanketed parts of Gaza City. Hamas accused Fatah of trying to burn down the university, a key symbol of Hamas' strength.

Also on Friday, Hamas fighters commandeered a police station dominated by Fatah loyalists in Gaza City.
