TRAVELS WITH NANCY

While I was traveling for Pesach, Nancy Pelosi made her controversial trip to the Mid-East. She visited Israel and met with the chinnless opthomologist that runs Syria.

The Wall Street Journal suggests that Pelosi may have violated the Logan Act.

Pelosi is "lucky" that Syria allowed her to enter the country. After all, it has a strict policy of refusing entry to anyone who has visited Israel--as Pelosi did. She probably avoided getting the Israeli stamp in her passport.

Regardless, she seems to have conveyed a message to Assad from Israel. According to the Washington Post, Pelosi told him that Israel will only engage in peace talks if Syria stops supporting Palestinian militants. Olmert denied that he sent any message to Syria with Pelosi. At the very least, Pelosi seems to have neglected to mention Israel's objections to Syria's support for Hezbollah. Dick Cheney made a similar point.
The US President and Israel may not be thrilled with Pelosi's visit to Syria but our terrorist enemies are. So is Jimmy Carter. Arab reformers? Not so much.
